Cinenómada en 'Menoria de Cine'
The Menoria association, which works for the children of Ethiopia from Galicia, wants to celebrate its 5th anniversary, and to do so, it has organised, among other activities, a film season that will show the film titled Atletu in three of the northern community´s cinemas.
The film season is titled Menoria de Cine and the showings will always be at 18:00 for an admission price of €2 on the following days and locations:
-
14/05/2011 Santiago de Compostela. Fundación Novacaixagalicia. Rúa Vilar 19
-
21/05/2011 La Coruña. Sala Sociocultural de la Fundación Novacaixagalicia. C/Médico Rodríguez 2-4
-
11/06/2011 Vigo. Auditorio del Centro Social Novacaixagalicia. C/Policarpo Sanz 24-26
The three sessions will consist of a showing of the film titled Atletu (The Athlete), a portrait of the legendary Ethiopian marathon runner, Abebe Bikila, which mixes fiction with library photos. He was completely unknown when he arrived at the 1960 Rome Olympic Games. However, this pastor´s son ran barefoot and won the gold medal. Four years later, he repeated the feat at the Tokyo Games, becoming the first person to win the Olympic marathon two consecutive times. A few years later, he was paralysed in a car accident and died four years later.
Casa África sponsors Cinenómada because it has the same objective as Al-Tarab of making African cinema visible to as many Spanish audiences as possible and of brining Africa closer to Spain.
Cinenómada makes available to various entities a large selection of films from past editions of the FCAT, subtitled in Spanish, which is to date the only offering of this dimension and genre that exists in Spain and that guarantees African producers an income, which although modest, is often the only one they receive.
It targets associations, municipalities, regional governments, universities, cultural centres, film libraries, museums and any type of organisation or institution that is interested in promoting African cinema. Cinenómada distributes films throughout the year that would otherwise remain only in specialised festivals.
