Lectura dramatizada de la obra 'Ellas [también] cuentan'

The Alaya Theatre Group is organising a dramatized reading, with music and dance, of this work from the Casa África Literature Collection.

Ellas [también] cuentan is an anthology that brings together - for the first time in the Spanish language - twenty female Black African writers from eleven English-speaking African countries, selected by Federico Vivanco.

In Ellas [también] cuentan, we meet three generations of women who, with the skill and power of the pens, describe their emotions and sorrows in a world that at times does not belong to them. Through their narratives and poems, they’ll try to destroy the myths surrounding some generalized and preconceived ideas that we have in the West about the African continent and its literature.

The work was conceived not only as a channel for dissemination and recognition of Black African female literature written in English, but also as a way of attacking male chauvinist attitudes, gender inequality and the patriarchal system.

This new anthology of short stories and poetry by female African authors writing in English has been selected and translated by Federico Vivanco for the Casa África Literature Collection, which aims to translate the most relevant titles of African literature into Spanish, considering both established writers and emerging writers with new values. This particular title has been published through Baile del sol.

With the approval of its author, Federico Vivanco, the Ahora Alaya Theatre Group is organising the dramatized reading of this work, with music and dance. It will take place in two different venues in Madrid:

Thursday 23 November at 7:00 p.m. in Lavapies Cultural Centre

In both cases, admission is free
