This conference, which will be attended by the secretary general of Casa África, Arianne Hernández, is part of the Programme for FGM Prevention and Intervention, funded by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security through the Fund for Asylum, Migration and Integration.
The conference will take place on 6 and 7 February 2017 in Conde Duque Madrid Cultural Centre located in the capital’s calle Conde Duque no. 9.

Female genital mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures involving altering or damaging the female genital organs for reasons that have nothing to do with medical decisions, and is recognised internationally as a violation of the human rights of women and girls.
It reflects a deep-rooted inequality between the sexes, and constitutes an extreme form of discrimination against women and girls. The practice violates their rights to health, safety and physical integrity, the right not to be subjected to torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and the right to life in cases where the procedure results in death.
“Working for the welfare of all families” is the guiding principal of UNAF, referring to the set of social, civil and economic rights that must be considered in policies aimed at families.
