Soutoura y Desvelos en el V Encuentro de la Red de Mujeres Africancas y Españolas
Within the framework of the Fifth Meeting of African and Spanish Women´s Network for a Better World, Casa África will assemble two exhibits at the Valencia Fair, where the meeting will take place.
On one hand, the Soutoura exhibit by the Canarian photographer Ángel Luis Aldai, and on another, Desvelos, by the Camerounian Angèle Etoundi Essamba, with 12 monoliths / 23 photographs at the entrance of the Valencia Fair.
The Soutoura project is an exhibit of 71 photographs of African women in different situations and tasks from their everyday life. The photographs have been taken by the photographer Angel Luis Aldai in his journey through Mali, Niger, Ghana, and the Ivory Coast.
Angèle Etoundi Essamba´s work deals with women in general, and black women in particular, who are the preferred subject matter that provide the artist with a continuous inspiration. In a certain way, her photography is a "self-portrait," and as a result, she immortalises her own experiences: maternity, contrast through the experiences of a black woman in a white world, harmony, mixed races, free women who are able to choose, etc.
