Presentación del libro: SECOCAN. Tejiendo Redes Canarias-Senegal
The SECOCAN (Co-development between Senegal and the Canary Islands) team, together with the CASAC (Coordinator of Senegalese Associations of the Canary Islands archipelago) presented this book in Casa África, which is the result of more than three years of work.
SESOCAN Weaving Canary Islands Senegal Networks is a transnational cooperation project that has been funded by the European Union through the MAC Programme 2007-2013 and whose members are the Directorate General of Relations with Africa of the Canary Islands Government (DGRA), Alliance for Solidarity Foundation, CEAR Canarias and ASCODE from Senegal.
The main objective of this project has been working with Senegalese groups and associations in the Canary Islands and with organisations in Senegal to develop training activities, meetings in the two countries, awareness actions and economic activities in Senegal that promote job creation and financial development.
The project ended in 2014, resulting in, among others, the publication of this book to be presented at Casa África, 14th April at 10:00 am in the presence of:
- Casa África's Director General
- Director General for Relations with Africa of the Canary Islands Government
- Coordinator of CEAR Canarias
- Delegate of Alliance for Solidarity in the Canary Islands
- Representative of CASAC
From the perspective of co-development, understood as a form of cooperation in which migrant citizens serve as a development vector of their countries of origin, the SECOCAN project has been aimed at the promotion of human development in the Canary Islands-Senegal border region.
One of the most important activities of the project was the identification of the Senegalese associative network in the Canary Islands.
The purpose of this book is none other than to make visible the reality of the Senegalese community resident in the Canary Islands, bringing the population of the Canary Islands closer to their realities, their customs, their beliefs, their adaptability and integration in our environment and, of course, their contribution to this society in which they live.
Casa África will lend their space for the presentation of this book and invite Mr. Sheikh Mousa Niyng Jeng, CASAC member to participate in this presentation on behalf of the Senegalese community in the Canary Islands.
