Jornada «Europa y la Unión Europea (UE): ¿cómo acercar Europa a los ciudadanos?»
The Faculty of Translation and Interpreting (FTI) of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) is organising this workshop at Casa África so that participants can share a range of impressions of the current situation of the EU from the perspective of different disciplines.
Within this framework, the speakers will critically analyse the strengths and weaknesses of the EU, avoiding taking up entrenched positions or relying on clichés, with the ultimate aim of identifying ways of bringing the idea and reality of the European project closer to citizens.
Five renowned speakers with experience in their respective professions will take part in this workshop. Each will cover the subject from their own discipline or field: the media, politics, economics, law, and the Canary Islands’ position between Europe and Africa.
This activity is organised by the FTI to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the ULPGC and 30 years of translation and interpretation studies at the ULPGC, with the collaboration of the EU Relations Directorate of the ULPGC, Casa África, Europe Direct and the Department of Modern Philology, Translation and Interpretation of the ULPGC.
The event is aimed at students and teachers in the fields of translation and interpretation, philology, law, economics and business, as well as members of the ULPGC community in general, related professional associations and the general public. Registration for the workshop is free and the FTI will certify attendance.
The speakers taking the podium during the day will be:
- RAFAEL LÓPEZ JUÁREZ, creator of the blog “La Mirada Europea” and Communication and Campaign coordinator of EURACTIV
- JUAN FERNANDO LÓPEZ AGUILAR, Member of the European Parliament
- FRANCESCO SARACENO, economist and deputy director of OFCE‐SciencesPo
- LUCAS PÉREZ MARTÍN, Professor and Director of EU Relations at the ULPGC
