Jornada "El español como puente"
Spanish as a bridge is an intercultural twinning between schools around the world to learn Spanish and spread its culture. It involves educational institutions from about twenty countries on the five continents and is the result of the work of more than forty teachers from all over the world linked through an idea that was born at IES San Benito (Canary Islands, Spain) and which supports a global, multilingual and intercultural school. But, above all, Spanish as a bridge is the interaction of more than 1,200 students of different nationalities who, through IT, use the Spanish language, culture and heritage as an instrument of international cooperation.
Casa África joins this initiative and offers its headquarters for students and teachers of IES San Benito de Tenerife to hold their first communication, via Skype, with the Casa Escuela de Español in Cape Town, South Africa. The main objective of the project is the promotion of Spanish. To combine the methodologies, plans and actions of a Spanish educational centre where Spanish is already being used as the first language (this centre will function as a backbone) with international centres where Spanish has an important presence, in order to put into practice the communication skills learned in class and to observe which successful experiences can be transferred to the other participating centres.
Each of the people who make up the community of Spanish as a Bridge believes that another educational model is possible. They believe that a language spoken by 572 million people around the world can be a tool for change, for breaking down barriers and for eradicating inequalities.
The true significance of this International Learning Network will lie in the relationships, values and learning that remain with the students when the teachers are no longer there.
