I Festival de Cine Africano de Guinea Ecuatorial
Casa Africa, along with the Tarifa African Film Festival (FCAT) and the Spanish Cultural Centres of Malabo and Bata, have organised the 1st African Film Festival of Equatorial Guinea from February 2-14, 2010.
This innovative initiative is part of Spain´s cultural cooperation activities in Equatorial Guinea, and will bring African films to the Spanish Cultural Centres of Malabo and Bata. During those days, the Guineans will have the opportunity to see an important sample of the film productions from their own continent.
In this way, this Festival hopes to bring the African film culture closer to the citizens of a country where film projection halls do not exist, and where this universal form of expression has been relegated to cultural centres for forty years, far from the general public.
More than forty titles that have received awards in various festivals throughout the world make up the programming of this Festival that displays the important film productions of the African continent.
The programming of this 1st African Film Festival of Equatorial Guinea will include extensive extra-cinematographic offerings, conferences, lectures, exhibits, workshops and musical performances that will complement the cultural offering during this celebration of the cinematographic art in Malabo and Bata.
This festival arose from the initiative of the Spanish Cultural Centres of Malabo and Bata, and the non-profit organisation D Al Tarab, the organising entity of the Tarifa African Film Festival, and Casa Africa, in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy in Equatorial Guinea, and the sponsorship of the Agencia Española de Cooperación para el Desarrollo (AECID, Spanish Agency for Development Cooperation).
