FCAT 2017. XIV Edición del Festival de Cine Africano Tarifa-Tánger
Cinema will reunite the continents of Africa and Europe thanks to the 14th Tarifa-Tangier African Film Festival (FCAT-2017), which will be held in both cities from 28 April to 6 May. This appointment with Africa’s cinemas is the only film event held simultaneously in Africa and Europe. FCAT is also the only festival in the Spanish-speaking world which specialises in African cinema.
Casa África will again be present at this important meeting between African cinema and the Spanish public, supporting the participation of the director Paulo César Nsue Nnang from Equatorial Guinea, winner of the CEIBA 2016 award presented by Casa África for the best short film at the FECIGE festival in Malabo. Paulo César will present his film Quatta.
Casa África has also invited Raimundo Bernabé Nnadong, winner of CEIBA 2015, to FCAT to participate in training workshops.
Finally, Casa África will temporarily cede the Artivism exhibition, which will be exhibited in Tarifa and Seville, showing the role of posters and music in the struggle against South African apartheid in the 70s and 80s.
This year, FCAT programming includes seventy films from Africa, the non-African Arab world and on African themes. Twenty of those titles, from the competition and parallel sections, will have their Spanish premieres and one will have its world premiere in Tarifa. The festival will open with the film Felicitè by the French-Senegalese filmmaker Alain Gomis, winner of the Silver Bear at the 2017 Berlin Film Festival and the Etalon Yenega (Best Film) at FESPACO 2017, the largest film festival in Africa. This year, as well as the usual competitive and non-competitive sections, FCAT will also schedule a retrospective of the work of Gomis. The festival will also focus on contemporary Tunisian cinema and will have a session devoted to Andalusian ethnographic film productions addressing African issues.
