Los negros nunca irán al paraíso is the book that we invite members of the Casa África Reading Club to read during the month of June 2010. The author, Tanella Boni, is a writer from the Ivory Coast that is among her country´s leading literary voices. The discussion about the book will take place in Casa África on Thursday, June 17, at 7:00 pm.
Tanella Boni was born in Abiyán in 1954. She completed her advanced studies in Toulouse and at the University of Paris. She was a philosophy professor at the university in the city where she was born, where she was vice deacon between 1993 and 1997. Between 1991 and 1997, she was the president of the Ivory Coast Writers´ Association.
The book proposed by the Casa África Reading Club is a novel about a black woman whose path crosses a white man dressed with a bubú (traditional African attire) in an airport. She is intrigued when she hears him yell, "Black people will never reach paradise!" She sits next to him on the plane and he proceeds to share his story with her.
