Cinenómada en Afrosfera
Espai Àfrica-Catalunya and RekThiossane, with the support of the Barcelona City Government, have organised the first edition of Afrosfera – Contemporary Black African Arts, which consists of yearly meetings that will focus on an artistic discipline (music, arts and crafts, stage arts, etc.) in each edition.
The project´s main objective is to increase the visibility of African creators so as to promote their insertion/standardisation in cultural programming and to avoid their exclusion.
In this first edition, destined at promoting African musicians in Barcelona and Catalonia, the concept is focused on a schedule of activities that are open to the public, which include the audiovisual exhibit "AFROmusic: Other Sounds of Africa", the round table titled "Contemporary musical creation in black Africa", and a professional meeting between African musicians and cultural operators. There will also be a showing of the documentary Alas sobre Dakar (Wings over Dakar) by Lidia Peralta. This documentary brings audiences before the intense metamorphosis of a musician who lives between Seville and Dakar.
The showing will take plat at Espai Avinyó-Llengua i Cultura C. Avinyó 52 /Barcelona on May 25th at 18:00. Admission is free.
This showing is possible thanks to the project Cinenómada, sponsored by Casa África because it has the same objective as Al-Tarab of making African cinema visible to as many Spanish audiences as possible and of brining Africa closer to Spain.
Cinenómada makes available to various entities a large selection of films from past editions of the FCAT, subtitled in Spanish, which is to date the only offering of this dimension and genre that exists in Spain and that guarantees African producers an income, which although modest, is often the only one they receive.
It targets associations, municipalities, regional governments, universities, cultural centres, film libraries, museums and any type of organisation or institution that is interested in promoting African cinema. Cinenómada distributes films throughout the year that would otherwise remain only in specialised festivals.
