Cine africano en la UGR
This Friday, November the 5th at 7:30 pm, the University of Granada will show 'La manteca y el dinero de la manteca' (Butter and Money From the Butter), becoming a meeting point for reflection and debate on the women´s movement in Africa and what this means for the development of the neighbouring continent.
'La manteca y el dinero de la manteca' is an African documentary from the Cinenómada film collection that uses images to narrate the reality of working women in Burkina Faso. In Burkina Faso, as well as in many Western African nations, countless women without resources work to produce shea butter, a product that is then sold as a cosmetic in Europe. Despite being sold in the so-called "fair trade" channels, the profits from shea butter are not destined to the women of Burkina Faso.
The documentary, which lasts one hour, will be shown on Friday, November the 5th at 7:30 pm in the university´s Carmen de la Victoria Assembly Hall, located at Cuesta del Chapiz, 9. Admission is free and open to all.
'La manteca y el dinero de la manteca' is part of the Cinenómada film collection.
Casa África sponsors Cinenómada
because it has the same objective as Al-Tarab of making African cinema visible to as many Spanish audiences as possible and of brining Africa closer to Spain.Cinenómada makes available to various entities a large selection of films from past editions of the FCAT, subtitled in Spanish, which is to date the only offering of this dimension and genre that exists in Spain and that guarantees African producers an income, which although modest, is often the only one they receive.
It targets associations, municipalities, regional governments, universities, cultural centres, film libraries, museums and any type of organisation or institution that is interested in promoting African cinema. Cinenómada distributes films throughout the year that would otherwise remain only in specialised festivals.
