Ciclo-taller: Debate sobre el cine de las independencias africanas
The Cultural Initiative Centre at the University of Sevilla (CICUS) in collaboration with the Cinenómada programme, sets into motion this debate cycle on African cinema, which will take place at the CICUS headquarters (C/ Madre de Dios, 1-3, in the Auditorium) on the 26th March, 23rd April, 28th May and 4th June from 18:00 to 22:00.
Casa África sponsors Cinenómada because it has the same objective as Al-Tarab of making African cinema visible to as many Spanish audiences as possible and of brining Africa closer to Spain.
Cinenómada makes available to various entities a large selection of films from past editions of the FCAT, subtitled in Spanish, which is to date the only offering of this dimension and genre that exists in Spain and that guarantees African producers an income, which although modest, is often the only one they receive.
It targets associations, municipalities, regional governments, universities, cultural centers, film libraries, museums and any type of organization or institution that is interested in promoting African cinema. Cinenómada distributes films throughout the year that would otherwise remain only in specialized festivals.
The films that make up this debate-cycle come from the hand of Cinenómada are about African cinema and deal with the subjects of: 50 years of African independent states?. 2010 marked the "official" independence of many African countries from their European colonisers, one of the most important events of the 20th century, as it meant the collapse of the Colonial Empire and the consequent decolonisation of the African continent.
To commemorate this event and its process, this year's FCAT edition has devoted an entire section to cinema about African independent states and this new debate-cycle hopes to provide an indepth discussion over 4 Sessions refelecting on African independence and the importance of its cinematography.
