Webinar: Iniciativas de prevención y adaptación para paliar los efectos del cambio climático en África a través de soluciones basadas en la naturaleza
According to the IPCC1 (IPCC Sixth Assessment Report), the expansion of deserts and severe changes in the most sensitive ecological and biological systems in Africa is due to the rising of global temperatures and declining rainfall. Both phenomena increase extreme weather events.
Africa is one of the most vulnerable continents due to its high exposure, vulnerability and low adaptive capacity, and IPCC alerts us to the fact that the impacts and risks of climate change are becoming more complex and difficult to manage.
The increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events is overwhelming the adaptive capacity of ecosystems and societies, undermining social justice in all countries. The most vulnerable countries are the first and most affected by adverse climate impacts. Taking into account that the 30 poorest countries according to their GDP are African, we can infer the great importance that climate change has for Africa.
Climate and weather extremes have already exposed millions of people in Africa to severe food insecurity and reduced water security, despite the increase but insufficient prevention and adaptation efforts.
Aim/Purpose
To carry out an exchange of knowledge between Spanish, international and African institutions that allows identifying good practices of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to face the effects of climate change in Africa. These NbS will guide the strengthening capacity building processes to prevent and adapt African countries to its effects, limiting the risks to which the most vulnerable population is exposed.
