VII Jornadas de la Mujer Portuaria y Marítima Africana y Española
Aware of the important role women play, particularly in Africa, this year Casa África is once again supporting the Fundación Puertos de Las Palmas (Las Palmas Ports Foundation) in their efforts, begun in 2007, to help and support the training of managers from the various ports on the west and central coast of Africa.
In those ports, the Asociación de Mujeres Profesionales Portuarias de la Costa Occidental y Central de África (Association of Professional Women from the Ports of the West and Central Coast of Africa) is active. The Association is composed of women who work in middle and senior management in the port authorities of their respective countries and aims to achieve improvements in all areas of the profession.
In order to assist with professionalizing, promoting and enhancing the role of African women in the port environment, the Fundación Puertos de Las Palmas has a close relationship with that organization and has been holding the Conference for African and Spanish Women Working in Ports and Maritime Environments since 2010. The fifth conference will be held from 25 to 29 July in Casa África (25 to 27 July) and various locations in Gran Canaria (28 and 29 July).
During these four days of meetings between African and Spanish women working in the port and the maritime world, several different activities will take place with the aim of strengthening ties and partnerships that are beneficial to both parties. Authorities and other people involved in the sector will take part and the conference will include different lectures by women in high positions and with responsibilities in different sectors, both Spanish and African.
