UNIFEM y La Red de Mujeres Africanas y Españolas por un Mundo Mejor se suman a las acciones del Día Internacional para la Eliminación de la Violencia contra la Mujer
November 25th is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, which begins the campaign for 16 days of activism that end on December 10th, International Human Rights Day.
Coinciding with this campaign, the United Nations, public authorities, specific groups and NGOs have developed a schedule of activities aimed at increasing awareness and promoting measures against all the forms of violence.
Human trafficking, which according to the ILO affects approximately 25 million people each year, is one of the themes that will be addressed those days. Specifically, the UNIFEM Office in Las Palmas will participate in two events. First, a session organised by the Canary Islands Government on November 22nd about this topic, which will be divided into a legal section and a social section. The delegate of the Canary Islands Government, Carolina Darias, will inaugurate this morning work session along with the supervisor of the UNIFEM office in the Canary Islands.
The UNIFEM Office in Las Palmas, with headquarters at Casa África, hosts the "Network of African and Spanish Women for a Better World". This project, which is supported by the Spanish government, is a platform of more than 1,000 associations of women fighting for gender equality and women´s rights in Africa and Spain.
