Tablero de Música
Casa África collaborates with the University of Burgos on what will be the 2012 edition of the Tablero de Música, an event that has been successful since its first edition in July 2001. This meeting with music from all over the World is held as part of this University's Summer Courses, through the Vice-presidency of Students and University Extension, which has achieved the consolidation of this annual meeting.
This cultural meeting is held in the Patio del Tablero de Ajedrez of the Hospital del Rey, and contributes to promoting the Burgos summer by inviting groups and soloists from different places and with different trends. The entrance tickets cost 2€ and are on sale at the ticket office of the Cultural Cordón (in advance) and one hour before each concert at the Hospital del Rey.
Among the guests to this important cultural event we find Ethiocolor, one of the winning groups of the last vis a vis meeting, held by Casa África in Ethiopia to put African musicians in contact with Spanish producers and give them the opportunity of visiting different Spanish stages by taking part in festivals such as this.
As old as radically modern, Ethiocolor's proposal disseminates the strength of the music and dances of Ethiopia. The group represents its country's traditional styles in a precise, lively new way, using instruments such as the kirar (a type of zither), the washint (flute) and kebero (traditional drums). Dances which are as hypnotic as dramatic and which represent popular tales fill the stage with strength and beauty.
Ethiocolor is a group of traditional music and dance from all over Ethiopia. Created by the dancer Melaki Balay, the group surprised the programmers with the intensity and modernity of its traditional music, together with the level of dancing and the energy that its concerts and performances transmit.
The Ethiopian vis a vis was the third edition of a meeting between African musicians and Spanish producers to improve the awareness of African music internationally, encouraging the participation of African musicians on Spanish platforms. This year it was carried out in Ethiopia, which as well as being home to a large musical and artistic heritage, is the country where the official headquarters of the African Union is located.
