Subasta benéfica: Calabazas para el agua

Wara Wara schools (EWW) is a community-based organisation in Sierra Leon that operates mainly in Wara Wara Bafodea province. Founded in 2012, it focuses on building schools and training teachers to facilitate greater and better access to education for children in one of the poorest countries on Earth, according to the Human Development Index.

To support this project, 64 Canary Islands artists from various disciplines (painters, sculptors, designers, artisans) have turned their talent to water gourds, giving artistic support to an exhibition that is open to the public at the Casa Museo Antonio Padrón de Gáldar.

The solidarity of these artists is reflected in the donation of the wonderful pieces that have been created, 25 of which will be auctioned in a public auction to be held at Casa África on 13 December 2016 at 7:30pm.

To register for the auction, send an email to subastacalabazas2016@gmail.com, and you will be assigned a bidding number for the auction.

The province where EWW works has about 48,000 inhabitants and has serious deficiencies in infrastructure and communications.

To carry out the improvement of schools and ensure that children have access to quality education as a weapon to combat underdevelopment, EWW build or repair schools, with the invaluable support of the local population, who provide everything they can including their own labour. EWW also supports the training of local teachers so that they can obtain a teaching qualification from the university. Usually it’s people from the village itself who are simply literate and teach children in exchange for a small amount of money that is insufficient to support them. This means that they have to supplement their income through other activities, usually agriculture.

EWW is able to carry out these projects thanks to private donations, many of them obtained through benefit events like the one held on 15 October in Gran Canaria or through activities like this auction being held in Casa África.
