Seminario internacional "Territorios ibéricos e identidades atlánticas: El origen histórico de sociedades transnacionales"
On 10 and 11 April 2019, the international seminar “Iberian territories and Atlantic identities: The historical origin of transnational societies” organised by the Instituto Universitario de Análisis y Aplicaciones Textuales (IATEXT) and CHAM - Centro de Humanidades / NOVA FCSH-UAc, with the collaboration of Casa África and Casa de Colón and coordinated by Javier Luis Álvarez Santos, Juan Manuel Santana Pérez and Germán Santana Pérez.
The purpose of this activity is to address the margins and marginality of the Iberian territories around the Atlantic by considering the issue from different academic perspectives. The proposed chronological axis is extensive, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, with the aim of analysing and debating long-term processes. This seminar also seeks to foster dialogue on the concept of identity in the current era of globalisation. On the one hand, dialogue between specialists from different areas of historical knowledge and on the other between the scientific community and society. The aim of this event is to use a historical analysis to define the current parameters that shape social identities in border spaces.
The group of speakers taking part all apply different perspectives (social, political, economic, cultural etc.) to the analysis and study of the Iberian world in their lines of research and, in particular, to its margins. In this respect, one of the main objectives of the seminar is to raise the visibility of research on the Portuguese-speaking world which borders the Atlantic with the intention of debating the idea of an Iberian identity throughout the Atlantic.
