Sematlantic 2012: II Seminario de Investigaciones sobre el Espacio Atlántico
Casa África collaborates another year with Sematlantic, a R+D Community promoted by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) and Santa Lucía Town Council, which holds its activity annually through a R+D event that brings together all interested parties.
The Atlantic made up a socio-economic system and a structured field of relationships when peoples in their different margins set up safe and stable contacts, thus paving the way to create networks of interdependence. This structuring happened in the 15th and 16th centuries, because before the Ocean was, from the human point of view, a closed and isolated place, which had no ideas on what links it could provide.
SEMATLANTIC's mission is to "help young platforms exhibit and debate their research on socio-economic, historical and geographical matters, related to the Canary Islands and their environment, promoting a Community that holds a yearly R & D event and permanent communication spaces that will serve as stands for the exhibition of this research together with other more recent ones on the Atlantic environment developed by expert researchers, at the same time as they are integrated into Society."
Sematlantic will take place at Teatro Víctor Jara of Vecindario (Santa Lucía, Gran Canaria) from 12th to 14th April 2012
