Ruralización de las ciudades africanas: ¿Trampa u oportunidad?
In Africa, the evolution of its societies places its metamorphosis into question. The undeniable urban expansion south of the Sahara is often marked either with a strong tie to the rural world or the result of reproduced values and habits from the rural world. This "peasant invasion" is bringing about significant changes for rural communities (in theory the pattern and anchor of the mentioned ruralisation) as well as in adapting African cities to the cosmopolitan model of globalisation viewed from a very Western perspective. The result is a pluralism that strongly overwhelms the degree of diversity "permitted" in developed societies.
In order to transfer this discussion to the academic world, the course titled Ruralisation of African cities: Trap or opportunity? will take place in Barcelona on October 14th and 15th, as part of the fall course programme at the Consorci Universitat Internacional Menéndez Pelayo de Barcelona (CUIMPB) – Centre Ernest Lluch (Montalegre, 5. Barcelona).
The course is led by Albert Roca, professor of Cultural Anthropology from the Universitat de Lleida, and will include Casa África´s collaboration.
