Presentación del informe Doing Business 2018 - Africa

Casa África is once again organising the presentation of this report, as it has during recent years. This year, this flagship publication of the World Bank Group has the title Doing Business 2018: Reforming to Create Jobs. This particular presentation will highlight those conclusions of the report which pertain to Africa.

This is the 15th in a series of annual reports which measure the regulations that favour business activity and those that restrict it.

Doing Business presents quantitative indicators on business regulations and the protection of property rights. These indicators can be compared over time between 190 economies from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.

The report will be presented (with a focus on Africa) by Ms Hulya Ulku, Senior Economist of the Global Indicators Group of the World Bank Group on 21 February 2018:

  • at 9:00 a.m. in the headquarters of the CEOE in Madrid (C/ Diego de León, 50). See the programme
Please confirm your attendance to Carolina Ortiz via email: cortiz@ceoe.es or telephone 915 663 448.
  • at 5:45 p.m. in Valencia, at the Headquarters of the Chamber of Valencia (C/ Poeta Querol, 15). See the programme and register.

Doing Business analyses the regulations that affect 11 areas of a company’s lifecycle. Ten of these areas are included in the classification on the ease of doing business: opening a business, managing construction permits, obtaining electricity, registering properties, obtaining credit, protecting minority investors, paying taxes, cross-border trading, compliance with contracts and resolution of insolvency.

The data used in Doing Business 2018 was current as of 1 June 2017. The indicators are used to analyse economic outcomes and identify which business regulation reforms have worked, where and why.

Of particular interest among the report’s main findings is that Malawi, Zambia, Nigeria and Djibouti are among the 10 economies that improved the most in the 2016/2017 period in the areas evaluated by Doing Business. Together, these 10 economies presented the most significant improvement globally and implemented 53 regulatory reforms that facilitate doing business.
