Alberto Virella, Director of Cooperation with Africa and Asia from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID)goes to Casa África to present policy areas and challenges of the APIA and Masar programmes, managed by the agency.
The event is on Friday, 20th March at 9.30 a.m. at Casa África and the title of the event will be: "The challenges of societies and African governments and the response of the Spanish Cooperation. The Masar and APIA Programmes."
The MASAR Programme (meaning 'way' or 'process' in Arabic) aims to support the processes of good governance in the Arab world. MASAR supports democratic processes in the region, contributing to the modernisation and strengthening of institutions and key players in developing the rule of law, so that the government can respond to the needs of their societies.
MASAR was created with a budget of 5 million euros for the biennium 2012-2013 and opens to the cooperation in countries of North Africa and the Middle East such as Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestinian Territories.
With respect to the APIA Programme (Supporting the Inclusive Public Policies in Sub-Saharan Africa), it was founded in 2014 to support African governments and companies in the development, formulation, implementation and monitoring of inclusive public policies, with the aim of contributing to growth of countries in sub-Saharan Africa to be inclusive and equitable, benefiting all citizens. To do this, APIA supports local formulation processes and monitoring of public policies, with particular emphasis on the participation of civil society.
The APIA programme jointly run by the AECID and the The International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP), concentrates its activities in countries considered priority for Spanish Cooperation in the area-Senegal, Mali, Niger, Mozambique, Ethiopia and Equatorial Guinea, and major African regional organisations such as the African Union, ECOWAS and UNECA, with which the Spanish Cooperation works in favour of development.
