Presentación de la monografía 'Meschac Gaba'
On Tuesday, March 23, the Casa África auditorium will host the official presentation of the Meschac Gaba monograph, the publication related to the exhibit Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Africano y más (Museum of Contemporary African Art and more), which may be visited at the CAAM until March 28. The presentation will begin at 8:00 pm, and will include the participation of Bianca Visser, art critic and the show´s curator; Juan Jaime Martínez, Director of the Area for Culture and Education of Casa África, and Federico Castro, Managing Director of the CAAM.
This publication is the result of a collaboration between the CAAM, the Museum De Pavilions van Almere and the Kunsthalle Fridericianum, institutions that have displayed the nomadic museum by the artist Meschac Gaba in their halls. The monograph, which is written in three languages (Spanish, English and German), includes an introductory text of each producer centre, along with texts by the critics Simon Njami and Marco Scotini. In addition to his biography, bibliography, and the listing of works displayed in the exhibit, the book includes a selection of works by the artist, made between 1990 and 2009.
The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Africano y más (Museum of Contemporary African Art and more) exhibit makes it possible to view, in a single location, this nomadic museum without headquarters that Gaba envisioned in 1997, with 12 rooms represented in an initial draft, and which has grown from year to year through expositions all over the world in museums, institutions and renowned exhibits. The latest contribution to this museum, titled Espacio Humanista (Humanist Space), was presented during the Kassel Documenta in 2002.
