NIMAD 2013: Cumbre Hispano-Nigeriana de negocio/inversión y exposición comercial
The Nigerian Embassy in Spain organised nimad2013: business / investment forum and trade exhibition, the first Hispano-Nigerian business / investment and trade show held in the Palacio de Congresos Prince Felipe de Madrid from 2nd to 4th December 2013.
Spain is the third largest trading partner of Nigeria, first destination of investments during 2011 and 2012 in Africa, a continent that emerges with economic growth levels well above the European average.
This makes summits like this very relevant, which are designed to increase trade relations between the two countries presenting new opportunities for business and investment.
The Director General of Casa Africa, Mr. Santiago Martinez-Caro, will act as moderator at one of the tables that make up this event which is themed "Transforming Market Opportunities into Strong Trade" and which will also be attended by the Ambassador of Spain in Nigeria, Alvaro Castillo Aguilar. The main objective is to create a platform for the exchange of ideas that could become immediate trade for both countries.
Nigeria is undoubtedly a big market. A population of 170 million people and its strategic location on the Gulf of Guinea make the country the gateway to the regions of south west Africa. Democratic stability along with laws that protect and help business development, make this country an attractive place for new investments. It is therefore not surprising that despite the overall downturn in business activity, Nigeria has been able to attract more than $ 6.8 billion of FDI in 2012, maintaining its position as a leading investment destination in Africa for the second consecutive year, with an economy that has maintained a steady growth of 6%. The main areas of foreign investment in Nigeria include sectors such as oil, gas, manufacturing, infrastructure development, services and consumption, with Europe, America and Asia as its major trading partners.
Despite this steady growth, Nigeria is still in search of new international investments that will contribute to its economic development and it is in this line that the country seeks to enhance bilateral cooperation and collaboration of Spanish companies in the pursuit of economic growth and mutual development.
