MUMES 2012: Festival de Músicas Mestizas y +
The Mixed Music and + Festival, MUMES, celebrates its ninth edition in 2012 and true to the spirit that saw it created in 2004, continues programming cultural activities that look to promote tolerance between peoples through the awareness of different traditions. The Festival, which will carry out activities from the 26th June to the 15th July, ends in a large concert with the most representative bands from world music.
In this ninth edition, MUMES has selected a sample, among others, of cultural traditions from Mexico, Ethiopia, Spain and the Canary Islands. A cinema screening, two debate forums, a workshop of Ethiopian dance and music, gastronomy and traditional crafts are some of the activities that MUMES will offer in its programming for 2012. Also for the first time in its history, the Festival will hold a concert in Gran Canaria, extending in this way this Festival's scope of activity, which wants to highlight the ethnic culture of countries from Africa, America and Europe.
Casa África once again collaborates with this important festival, part of the European Forum of Worldwide Music Festivals [EFWMF], by providing the African part with the Ethiopian group Ethiocolor. This group was one of the winners of the Ethiopian Vis A Vis, a meeting organised by Casa África between Spanish producers and African musicians that was held in the Ethiopian capital (Addis Ababa).
