La Universidad de Alicante celebra el Día de África
As part of Africa Day, which is held on May 25th, the Universidad de Alicante has organised a series of activities (music, exhibits, conferences, workshops, etc.) that will take place both on campus as well as at the Centro Cultural Las Cigarreras.
Casa África supports this celebration by contributing a film season through the Cinenómada programme. Casa África sponsors Cinenómada because it has the same objective as Al-Tarab of making African cinema visible to as many Spanish audiences as possible and of brining Africa closer to Spain.
Cinenómada makes available to various entities a large selection of films from past editions of the FCAT, subtitled in Spanish, which is to date the only offering of this dimension and genre that exists in Spain and that guarantees African producers an income, which although modest, is often the only one they receive.
It targets associations, municipalities, regional governments, universities, cultural centres, film libraries, museums and any type of organisation or institution that is interested in promoting African cinema. Cinenómada distributes films throughout the year that would otherwise remain only in specialised festivals.
The film season will consist of the following showings, which will take place at the Centro Cultural Las Cigarreras:
Thursday, May 26th at 21.30: Zulu Love Letter
Friday, May 27th at 21:30: Touki Bouki
The Africa Day celebration will also include:
The 4th Seminari Internacional d’Estudis Transversals, which will be held on May 27th and 28th at the Aifos room and the Sede Universitaria Ciudad de Alicante
Presentation of the Miguel de Cervantes Virtual Library´s African Library Portal, created by a group of researchers from the Universidad de Alicante, led by Dr. Josefina Bueno.
