Jornadas 'Infancia y Objetivos del Milenio: propuestas y retos para la cooperacion internacional'
The approval of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) by the UN General Assembly in 1998 resulted in a radical change of the work carried out in favour of childhood.
This seminar, organised by Casa África along with UNICEF, Casa Asia and Casa de América, has the following objectives:
- To continue the debate for generating effective proposals, that from within the Spanish context, guarantee the investment in childhood as a condition for fulfilling the Millennium Agenda.
- To give visibility to childhood within the agenda of the Spanish presidency of the EU and within the framework of the preparations for the MDG Summit that will take place in New York during September 2010.
On March 24, at 4:30 pm, the round table, which is open to the public, will be inaugurated.
As of 5:00 pm, the conferences about childhood in the global context and responses through collaboration will begin:
- Impacto de la crisis sobre la Infancia (Impact of the crisis on childhood), led by Caroline Harper, Research Fellow of the Social, Childhood and Gender Development Programme at the Overseas Development Institute in London.
- Recuperación con rostro humano (Recovery with a human face), led by Bernt Aasen, Director of the UNICEF Regional Office in Latin America and the Caribbean.
- La Infancia en la Cooperación de la Unión Europea (Childhood in the European Union Cooperation), led by Juan Garay, Coordinator of the European Commission's Directorate General for Development .
