Jornada: Comunicación en conflictos armados y crisis humanitarias
...more than 1,000 million people worldwide suffer from malnutrition ... a quarter of children under five are stunted by nutritional deficit ... armed conflicts spread around the world are causing about 700,000 deaths a year, of which 90% are civilians ...
These and many other daily headlines flood the media. Press, radio and television whose professionals deal daily with the challenge of offering current news, but what problems does the reporter covering the story from the ground face? How do they get on with the military in armed conflict as well as the aid workers? How can they offer impartial information that is not governed either by economic or political interests?
To speak about this, the Faculty of Information Sciences at the University of La Laguna is organising this seminar where the central theme is the work of communication professionals during armed conflicts and humanitarian crises, examining the inevitable relationships that must occur in these cases between the military, journalists and aid workers, this time focusing on the specific case of África.
The person in charge of Casa África's Media Relations, Joan Tusell Prats, takes part in this conference together with other guest speakers at the conference such as Rosa María Calaf, Nicolás Castellano, Pepe Naranjo, Makaila Nguebla or Gemma Parellada who will examine the complex relationships between the media, military forces and aid worlkers in environments of war and conflicts.
The conference, which is free, will be held onThursday 7th November 2013 in the auditorium of the aforementioned faculty
