IV Encuentro de Biblioteconomía: Lectura y Culturas. El fomento transcultural de la lectura

On 12/12/12, Casa África will hold its 4th Librarianship Meeting, which this year will be under the title "Reading and Cultures. Promoting transcultural reading," and coincides with the programming of SILA (International African Book Fair), an initiative that has always had the support of this institution and that for the first time will be held at its headquarters.

This professional session on the area of librarianship and documentation, wants to give continuity to the exchange of experiences between Spanish and African professionals started by Casa África in 2008 and that brings us closer to realities that are different from our own, encourages cooperation and opens up new horizons for collaboration and dissemination of cultural heritage.

Trying to establish synergies and collaborations that result in a mutual benefit and the optimisation of resources, this fourth edition of the Librarianship Meeting also supports the initiative "Pact for Reading and Writing " organised by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria.

Based on previous editions, the training sessions and meetings with African experts in matters of librarianship and documentation, have established the need to strengthen the link, which means holding these meetings to establish a continuous communication among the members of the working groups of the national libraries, archives and documentation centres.

On this occasion, the meeting will celebrate a joint purpose: on the one hand, to strengthen the social role of libraries as integration areas and as entities that favour bringing different cultures closer, and on the other hand, set up targets and opportunities that can be developed from the libraries in contexts  such as the current crisis, a crisis that is not just economic, but also as a context for change, optimisation of resources and application of new technologies that will promote the effect of services in libraries, facilitate access to knowledge and connect us to new users.

  • Place: Casa África. Calle Alfonso XIII, nº 5. 35003 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
