IV Encuentro con Mujeres que Transforman el Mundo

The 4th Meeting with Women who change the world   is a discussion forum that is undertaken thanks to its protagonists, great women who are taking action  in society, brilliant women who disrupt the course of History with their lives in search of peace, which in itself brings justice, freedom, dignity, generosity, existence itself, in short, Human Rights.

Women who transform the World returns once more to Segovia to create a series of face-to-face conversations on stage and show the reality of women in different parts of the world and from different areas through this 4th Meeting to be held from 14th to 23rd March 2014, in La Cárcel Centro de Creación. (Avenida Juan Carlos I s / n) and in which Casa África returns by providing:

  • The presence of Jenni Williams and Magodonda Mahlagu, two Zimbabwean activists fighting for human rights in their country
  • The Soutoura exhibition, 28 photographs of African women by the photographer Angel Luis Alday

Saturday 15th March at 12:00p.m. "The price of defending Human Rights in Zimbabwe." Mara Torres in a three way talk with Jenni Williams and Magodonga Mahlangu. Entrance fee: 2 €

  • Jenni Williams, arrested in September 2013 along with Magodonda Mahlangu for their opposition to Mugabe's regime. This Zimbabwean began her fight in 1994, defending farmers whose farms were to be expropriated by Mugabe. In 2003 she decided to found Women of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA), a women's movement based on non-violence that soon also had men join it, whose aim is to fight against oppression and defend Human Rights in a country where raising certain issues not only generates fear, but imprisonment in appalling conditions.
  • Magodonga Mahlangu is a tireless advocate for women's rights in Zimbabwe. She fights for democracy, peace and women’s rights as leader of WOZA. She has coordinated more than 100 non-violent public demonstrations and has taken a poll of nearly 10,000 people on their hopes for the creation of a new Zimbabwe. Despite having been arrested and jailed more than 30 times and suffered police brutality along with Williams, Magodonga Mahlangu remains steadfast in her commitment to a future for Zimbabweans.

From 14th March to 13th April Sala Expresa2. Photographic Exhibition

  • Soutoura is an exhibition consisting of 28 photographs of African women in their daily lives, which tries to change that image which is traditionally associated with tragedy and misery, to show their more positive and real face.
