III Encuentro "Día Internacional de la Infancia"
20 November is an important day for children. Since 1954, it has been Universal Children’s Day. On this date in 1959, the Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Child was adopted and in 1989 it was the date when the Convention on the Rights of the Child was approved, the most universal of the international treaties regarding children.
Parents, teachers, nurses and doctors, government and civil society leaders, media professionals, religious leaders, business people and the media can and should together do everything in their power to promote the well-being of children.
Therefore, Casa África has decided to dedicate this day to children, who will be the protagonists at our headquarters on 20 November.
Students from different schools have been invited to participate in this workshop about childhood on different continents. From their point of view, and through an activity proposed by Casa África under the slogan “The Children of the World want Peace”, the children have worked on creative projects about this period of life and how it varies across different continents.
In this idea-sharing session that will take place in Casa África’s Nelson Mandela Auditorium on 20 November from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the children will have the opportunity to exhibit their work during a special meeting to show the projects they completed in the format of their choice and with the support of their teachers in the classroom.
With this meeting, we intend to introduce the young people from the participating schools to the debate focused on World Peace. This debate will be led by invited experts from different organizations who will be looking to understand different points of view about the vulnerability of children in a world in conflict. The aim is to thus achieve an exchange of opinions which offer effective solutions to achieve the ideals of Peace and a better future for all.
Participating in the debate are the Asociación Mensajeros de la Paz (Messengers of Peace Association) from the Canary Islands, the Fundación Crecer Jugando (Growing-up Playing Foundation), the Campaña Un Juguete Una Ilusión (One Toy One Dream Campaign) and Kiku Mistu, President of the Imaginari Cultural Centre and Director of the Company.
