II Jornadas Internacionales de Participación y Desarrollo Social de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Only through participation is it possible to build new paths, search for answers to the crisis, and guarantee the sustainability of social development processes. This is the commitment and the project that the City Government of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is putting into motion with the second edition of this event, of which the first was held in February 2008 and that takes place every two years.
These second conferences are being held in the middle of a new reality that is taking place not only in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, but also throughout the world, in which the current crisis cannot be forgotten, and despite the limits and difficulties, the crisis can be an important opportunity to re-design new policies based on citizen participation.
Aside from including important speakers, the conferences will recognise the work of all the social collectives and the professional tables that are involved in community and socio-cultural projects and processes throughout the city, related to the municipal "participation and social development" project. They will be able to offer their experiences and proposals in person through the various meetings and offices that will host the conferences.
Casa África will collaborate in the "day of meetings and experiences" focused on "Multiculturalism and Globalisation," which will take place on November 12. It will also organise an African presence for these events through Aminata Traoré, the former Minister of Culture and Tourism of Mali and one of Africa´s most respected voices.
