II Encuentro Coreográfico África-España

Casa África, in collaboration with the Spanish Agency of International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Mercat de les Flors of Barcelona, has organised the 2nd Choreographic Africa-Spain meeting.

This activity is in line with Casa África’s programme "Africa in Movement" and has as its precedent the 1st Choreographic meeting of La Gomera. This was held in 2010 and established the first contacts between dance professionals in Spain and those of the neighbouring continent setting into motion a programme for artistic residences amongst dancers.

This 2nd meeting wants to incorporate new values emerging from African contemporary dance and hopes to be an open space for the general public.

During five days there will be workshops, presentations of experiences, talks and acts by dance companies. Shows from consolidated African artists will be presented together with experiences on work that they have both collaborated with.

On the other hand and thanks to the Festival Masdanza, young choreographers from different countries have been chosen through different Spanish embassies in African countries, will also be present at this meeting in Barcelona before travelling to Gran Canaria.

The acts planned at the Mercat de les Flors are:

Vuyani Dance Theatre / Gregory Maqoma with the act ‘Beautiful me’ on the 8th and 9th October

The Compañía Nómada de Danza y Teatro presents the show 'Que corra el aire (Let the wind blow)’ on the 11th October
