Harare International Festival of Arts (HIFA)

Casa África and its programme Africa in Movement continue supporting African contemporary dance through different activities such as choreographic residencies of dancers and choreographers to collaborate in the development of their creations or supporting the presence of Spanish dancers in African festivals as important as this one, the Harare International Festival of Arts (HIFA)

HIFA 2014 will be held from 29th April to 4th May 2014 in Harare, Zimbabwe. It is a 6 day annual festival that showcases the best of local, regional and international art and culture in a programme that includes theatre, dance, music, circus, street performances and visual arts among others. HIFA has become an important symbol of something positive about Zimbabwe, unifying socially and culturally the disparate groups of Zimbabweans at a time of ideological conflict and political uncertainty, which manages to combine a wide audience to celebrate something positive: the constructive capacity of the arts .

This time Casa África's supports the presence at this international meeting of Aïda Colmenero, actress, model, performer, choreographer, producer and professor awarded by the Ministry of Culture of Spain and the AECID (Spanish Agency for Cooperation and Development).

It is the second year that the Spanish artist is invited to this great festival of the performing arts, undoubtedly one of the most important in the entire African continent. Last year it was with her work Miss me, interpreted by the Tanzanian dancer Pili Maguzo. This year, Aïda will be present, with the support of Casa África, dancing the solo Preludio, created by the choreographer Paloma Sánchez Andrés and produced by La Nivola Teatro and Yakart in collaboration with Espacio en Blanco from Madrid. Additionally, Aïda will teach a contemporary dance master-class at HIFA.

In the words of its author, Preludio is about the systematic rape of beauty, loss of innocence and ultimately forgiveness and redemption. A hymn to life created from a deep breath. "

Working between Africa and Spain since 2009, Aïda has developed her educational project "Africa in Dance - Training Programme", carrying out training courses in Morocco, Senegal, Nigeria, Cape Verde, Ghana, Tanzania, Guinea Conakry, Madagascar and Gabon for dancers , actors, children, circus people and women of special groups.
