Germaine Acogny, icono de la danza africana contemporánea, enseña a bailar en Madrid

She will be the guest of honor at the II Cycle of Modern African Dance organized by the dancer and choreographer Aïda Colmenero Dïaz.

The week around the icon of contemporary African dance will be held at  TEATROS DEL CANAL  from 12 to 16 October 2015.

A unique opportunity to see her way of  working, her technique, her dance.

Germaine is an African woman who defends her roots and promotes the artistic development of an entire continent.This week is part of the II Cycle of Modern African Dance that the  Spanish choreographer develops for the second year in Madrid.

The aim of this cycle is to bring contemporary African dance to the Spanish audience.During this week we will meet the mother of contemporary African dance, a visionary woman, a woman who has been dedicated her life  to defend  their African roots and provide professional training for all African dancers through the school she has founded ECOLE DES SABLES (School of sand).This week will be a meeting with her to know her body work, her life and her way of living.

The program will consist of an intensive danceworkshop, a conference and a projection one tribute video in Teatros del Canal of Madrid.

The dance workshop will be taught by Germaine and Aïda (as her assistant), and will be accompanied on live by African and spanish musicians. It will take place from 12 to 16 October:

  • Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 16-21 h
  • Wednesday 16-19h
  • Friday from 16 to 19: 30h

The presentation of the workshop will be open to the public, free entrance, on Friday 16 October from 20:00 to 21 hours.

The conference will be open to the public, free entrance, place limited. The participants of the workshop will have priority for the conference, that will take place on Wednesday 14, October 19: 30h-21:00h
