Feria del Libro de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
The literary sector plays an important cultural role in bringing the Canary Islands and Africa together and is a significant driver of economic growth and development, therefore Casa África is once again supporting the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Book Fair organised by the Las Palmas Booksellers Association.
The Fair will take place from 30 April to 5 May in the Parque de San Telmo, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This year, the Fair is celebrating its 31st anniversary.
Casa África is collaborating by organising an event which is part of its African Letters programme and which will feature the writer Nii Ayikwei Parkes. Nii is the author of one of the stories in Doce relatos urbanos/Twelve Urban Stories, the next book that Casa África will publish as part of its Literature Collection. Nii has also had a novel published in Spanish, El enigma del pájaro azul / Tail of the blue bird. This event will take place on Thursday 2 May at 6:30 pm when the members of the Casa África Reading Club and members of the public attending the Fair will have the opportunity to discuss with the author his contribution to the book.
On Saturday 4 May at 1pm, as part of this collaboration with the Book Fair, Casa África is arranging a round table on La juventud en África / Youth in Africa, one of the latest titles published in the Casa África Essay Collection.
That same day, at 6:30 pm in the Casa África courtyard, there will be a meeting of reading clubs of Gran Canaria in honour of Antonio Lozano, reading and discussing his figure and legacy. Taking part will be Antonio Morales, president of the Gran Canaria Island Council; José Luis Márquez, manager of Casa África; and Juan Montero, philosopher and Africanist.
