Exposición: Sahara, una mirada en el tiempo y del espacio

The Saharawi Alliance for Democracy and Development, through the architect Tomás Quintana, asked Casa África to assign one of its exhibition halls to display this photo exhibition based on the retrospective of  life in different Saharawi cities as a historical support to two art exhibitions of modern design by the female photographer Nezha Alaoui and photographer Angel Luis Aldai.

This exhibition is part of a series of socio-cultural activities which, starting in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, will continue to Nouakchott, Dakar, Bamako, Paris, Barcelona, Rabat, Laayoune and Boujdour.

Nezha Alaoui was born in Rabat in 1982. Her travels and experiences abroad are some of the essential elements that make up her career. She has worked as a writer, producer, artist and photographer, producing articles in Haiti, Ethiopia, Mozambique and Mauritania for the World Food Programme of the United Nations.
In love with the desert and its inhabitants, Nezha Alaoui spends most of her time in the Sahara of Morocco, a passion that is projected in several of her books.
With the reputation of her publications and exhibitions in Morocco, Europe and North America, Nezha Alaoui takes a humanist trip that is committed to art, which will confirm she has a promising future.
The photos on display in this exhibition which Casa África now exhibits are from different regions of the Sahara taken in 2013.

Angel Luis Aldai was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1949. He started in photography in the early 70s and since then has travelled through the five continents taking photographs for his various publishing projects, among which is Soutoura, a project from Casa África that allowed Aldai to portray women from different African countries to form an exhibition that due to the institution has toured in different cities.
His works have been exhibited in Rome, New York, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Valencia, Cordoba, Huelva, Niger, Mali, Ghana and Tanzania, both in art galleries as well as exhibition halls and museums, while many of his works are part of important private collections and public organisations.
As an author and editor he has published more than a dozen books on photography.
The photos on display at this exhibition which Casa África now exhibits were taken in the region of Tan Tan in El Ouatia, during the summer of 2013.
