Diez ciudades para África

The Al-Tarab NGDO, which organises the Tarifa African Film Festival (FCAT), has the objective of drawing attention to African film productions in Spain. Casa África sponsors its Cinenómada programme because it shares the same objective as Al-Tarab--to draw the attention of the greatest number of Spanish audiences to African films.

This past February 28th, Al Tarab received one of the Blas Infante Casares Solidario 2010 Awards. Thanks to this recognition, Al Tarab is organising Diez Ciudades para África (Ten Cities for Africa), a project for distributing African films throughout all of Spain, from 29 November 2010 through 01 April 2011, showing the best of the African film industry. An event that cannot be missed by those people who are interested in learning about the neighbouring continent from a different perspective.

Casa África sponsors Cinenómada because it has the same objective as Al-Tarab of making African cinema visible to as many Spanish audiences as possible and of brining Africa closer to Spain.

Cinenómada makes available to various entities a large selection of films from past editions of the FCAT, subtitled in Spanish, which is to date the only offering of this dimension and genre that exists in Spain and that guarantees African producers an income, which although modest, is often the only one they receive.

It targets associations, municipalities, regional governments, universities, cultural centres, film libraries, museums and any type of organisation or institution that is interested in promoting African cinema. Cinenómada distributes films throughout the year that would otherwise remain only in specialised festivals.

The ten cities in question are Valladolid, Logroño, Barcelona, Burgos, Palma de Mallorca, Vigo, Casares, Madrid, Valencia and Córdoba. The best films from this past Tarifa African Film Festival edition will be shown during two days in each city, and they have all received various recognitions.

The programme will be the same for all the cities:

First day:

  • Lezare (For Today) by Zelalem Woldemariam, Ethiopia, 14 minutes, Amharic V.O. with Spanish subtitles.

  • Les larmes de l’émigration (The Tears of Emigration) by Alassane Diago, Senegal/France, 79 minutes, Peul V.O. with Spanish subtitles

Second day:

  • Nous aussi avons marché sur la lune (We Also Walked on the Moon), DRC/Algeria, 16 minutes, French V.O. with Spanish subtitles

  • Atletu (The Athlete) by Rasselas Lakew and Davey Frankel, Ethiopia/USA/Germany, 93 minutes, Amharic and English V.O. with Spanish subtitles
