Conmemoración del Día de la Mujer
Gender equality is a general objective of the Africa Plan, and therefore also for Casa África, as well as one of the main objectives of the Spanish Cooperation. For this reason, Casa África is joining the international events that take place during the month of March in commemoration of Women´s Day. There will be a complete set of activities at its headquarters on March 22nd, in collaboration with the ONG Plan, the Secretariat of the Network of Women for a Better World (headquartered in Casa África) and the Council for Equality of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Government (a member of the consortium).
As part of the event, the results of the NNUU´s 55th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), which was held in New York, will be presented. Additionally, the event will focus on a work initiative carried out by the Council for Equality of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Government, which has resulted in the creation of a network of young people to promote equality through education (Network of Mediators for Equality).
Also, the latest report about the situation of girls around the world, as part of the ONG Plan´s 'Because We Are Girls' campaign, will be presented. The importance of drawing attention on the double exclusion that girls are sometimes subjected to, simply because they are girls, is made evident by data such as what is included in the Plan´s website.
Eradicating children´s poverty is part of eliminating the inequality faced by girls, who simply 'because they are girls', face double discrimination because of gender as well as age, making the poorest of the poor.
