Conferencias en el marco de la exposición "El iris de Lucy"

In conjunction with the exhibition «El iris de Lucy», a joint CAAM - Casa África production which will be shown simultaneously in both institutions, a series of talks has been planned for students, artists, educational professionals and interested members of the public

This fifth talk closes the series and will take place in CAAM’s Sala Polivalente on 25 May 2017 at 7pm. The talk will be given by Sue Williamson, who will be accompanied by Orlando Britto, curator of «El iris de Lucy»

Free admission. Advance registration is not required. Limited capacity.

Sue Williamson works in installation, constructed objects, photographic images and video, addressing social aspects of contemporary history, memory and the creation of identity. She moved to South Africa with her family when she was a child and still lives in Cape Town, although her work is internationally recognized. In her work, she boldly shows where she is and is critical of her country’s institutions. According to Williamson “we are in the process of reaching an agreement with the past”.

Today, Williamson is an internationally recognized artist who exhibits her work in museums around the world. Her work is represented in the collections of most South African museums and several international museums.

Article in Le Monde Afrique: For South African artist Sue Williamson, forgiveness is difficult. A former anti-apartheid activist, this artist mixes photography, video and writing to give the victims of the racist regime faces and voices.

Orlando Britto Jinorio is currently director of the CAAM. He is a historian and art critic, curator of exhibitions and contemporary art projects, and cultural manager. From 1989 to 1998 he worked at the Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno (CAAM) as Curator, Head Curator and Deputy Director.
