Club de Lectura Casa África: 'Kuty, memoria de sangre', de Aida Mady Diallo
Kuty, memoria de sangre (Kuty, Blood Memory) is the book that we invite the Casa África Reading Club´s members to read during November of 2010. The author, Aida Mady Diallo, is the first woman from Sub-Saharan Africa to write a black literature novel.
The discussion about the book will take place in Casa África on Wednesday, December 1st, at 7:00 pm, at what will be the last meeting for 2010.
In the novel, the author creates a plot based on the Tuareg conflict and its origins in Mali´s society. The protagonist is a 10 year old girl who sees how a group of bandits of this ethnic group murders her family in Gao, a city in the northern part of the country next to the Niger River. After wandering through the streets of Bamako, she is picked up by two women who own a restaurant. From that moment, she lives only for revenge in an adventure that will take her to Dakar and Abidjan. The author delves into the world of the difficult coexistence between Tuaregs (who consider themselves white and noble) and blacks.
