Club de Lectura Casa África: 'El Antipueblo', de Sony Labou Tansi
El Antipueblo (The Antipeople) is the book that we invite the Casa África Reading Club´s members to read during October of 2010. The author, Sony Labou Tansi, is a novelist from the Democratic Republic of the Congo who is considered to be one of the greatest writers from Central Africa, despite his short literary career due to his death at the age of 47. The discussion about the book will take place in Casa África on Wednesday, October 27, at 7:00 pm.
El antipueblo (The Antipeople) is a ferocious political-social satire that tells the story of Dadú--ideal husband and father, honest public official, assistant director of the Kimshasha Teaching School, a model citizen of Zaire--who is tested by the charming Yavelde, one of his young students. How to resist the temptation? This adventure will take him to the jails of his country, and from there to the guerrilla of the bordering State where he is given the assignment of murdering the Prime Minister, the "antipeople" power.
Sony Labou Tansi was born in Kimwanza in 1947, and passed away from AIDS at the age of 47 in Brazzaville, only four days after his wife died from the same disease. This English professor used French as the language for his literature, often drawing attention to post-colonial dictatorships and corruption.
