Cena Contemporânea 2012
From the 17th to the 29th July Contemporary Scene 2012, the International Theatre Festival of Brasilia will be held. As part of this, Juan Jaime Martínez, head of Casa África's Culture and Education Area, will take part in, Encontros do Cena, the International Cultural and Artistic Cooperation Area, which will be held on the 27th and 28th July. This year it will focus on the links between Africa and Latin America, its challenges and opportunities, so as to promote the exchange between creators and institutions of Latin America and Africa, bringing together nearly 20 specialists and professionals in the subject.
There will be debating tables on subjects such as "Culture and Development in Africa and Latin America" or "Building cultural bridges: cooperation in Africa and Latin America" and Casa África's participation will specifically focus on the table "Articulation and movement platforms in Africa and Latin America." This table is devoted to showing interesting and creative initiatives and projects that are dedicated to using culture and art as a development tool in African and Latin American territories. In it, Juan Jaime Martínez will display Casa África's Scenic Arts programme, África en Movimiento.
Theatre, dance and music shows will be presented from Benin, Argentina, Colombia, South Africa, Chile, Mexico, Cuba and there will be special guests from Spain and Germany. Among the most famous African guests, will be the dancer Kofi Kôkô, one of the most important representatives of modern dance in Africa.
The festival will also collaborate with the Latinidades project, The Afro-Latin American and Caribbean Women's Festival, which seeks to give visibility to the history of struggles and resistance of black women in Latin America. This will all be accompanied by free concerts, among them those of the Afro group Ilê Aiyê.
