Casa África en el XII Festivalito de La Palma

The La Palma Festivalito - Canary Islands Festival de Cine de Las Estrellas (Film festival of the stars)is committed to a new model of film festival: a meeting and a film camp in which creativity, exchange of experiences and coexistence are as important as a solid commitment to other ways of seeing, making and understanding cinema.

The organizers of the La Palma Festivalito do not define it as a festival of cinema but as a festival in which cinema is made. The participants take up the challenge of designing, filming and editing a short film during the week of the contest, in a family atmosphere and spirit of coexistence throughout the island. The Festivilito is held in the Canary Islands, on the island of La Palma, each year and Casa África is collaborating in this twelfth year by bringing the documentary Nelson Mandela, the myth and me by the South African director Khalo Matabane. This will be screened as one of the parallel activities of the Festivalito which include film screenings, monologues, theatre shows, youth film workshops, DJ sessions, excursions, etc.

South African filmmaker Khalo Matabane was an idealistic teenager with fanciful ideas about a post-apartheid era of freedom and justice when Nelson Mandela, the great symbol of liberation, was released from prison in 1990. In a personal odyssey that includes an imaginary letter to Mandela and conversations with politicians, activists, intellectuals and artists, Matabane questions the meaning of freedom, reconciliation and forgiveness, and challenges Mandela’s legacy in a world plagued by conflict and inequality. The screening will take place on Monday 22 May at 9:30pm in the Multicines Millenium. Click here for the complete festival programme.

The Festivalito is cinema in its pure state, a unique life experience celebrating its twelfth year from 19 to 27 May 2017. Once again, there will be two venues:

From 19 to 22 May in Los Llanos de Aridane. Tickets must be bought at the Multicines Millenium box office.
From 23 to 17 May in Santa Cruz de La Palma. Tickets can be bought either online or at the Teatro Circo de Marte box office.
