African Film Festival of Barcelona Wallay !
Casa África will collaborate one more year with the Associaciò Aya Wallay for the celebration of the African Film Festival of Barcelona Wallay !, which had its origin in 2018 thanks to the alliance and collaboration between multiple people and cultural entities, both African, Catalan and international and that has resulted in the twinning with other festivals, such as the Congo International Film Festival, the New York African Film Festival or the Itinerant African Film Festival of Colombia.
The effects caused by the pandemic forced to postpone this edition, originally scheduled for April, but Wallay! Now resumes programming, maintaining the usual rooms -if health conditions and COVID prevention restrictions allow it-, and including an online room. That is why the Wallay! 2020 will be in a hybrid version: physical + online.
With screenings, invited industry directors and agents, panel discussions, exhibitions and other activities, Wallay! defines itself as a fresh and direct channel between Barcelona and sub-Saharan Africa for the dissemination of the culture and cinematography of the African continent, always seeking exchange and the generation of debate to promote mutual knowledge.
In this edition, Casa África's collaboration is embodied in two actions:
- the Spanish subtitling of the documentary film "Talking about trees" (2019) by the Sudanese director Suhaib Gasmelbari. This film will be broadcast in the face-to-face room (Institut Français) on Thursday, December 3 at 7:00 p.m. (PENDING COVID MEASURES) and in the online room (FILMIN) from November 30 to December 6
- and the presence of the South African director Jahmil X. T. Qubeka to present his latest feature film: "Knuckle City". This will be the film that opens the festival at the Filmoteca de Catalunya on Tuesday, November 24 at 7:30 p.m. with the presence of the director (PENDING COVID MEASURES). The film can also be seen in the online room (FILMIN) on November 26, 27 and 29.
