África Vive con el WOMAD Cáceres 2011
Casa África will provide the African side to this important festival
The 2011 WOMAD, a festival that has taken place in Cáceres since 1992 and through which top national and international artists have passed, will be held from the 12th through the 15th of May 2011. This year also coincides with the 20th anniversary of WOMAD in Cáceres, and the festival will inaugurate the recently renovated Plaza Mayor.
Casa África, in its role of bringing African culture close to Spain through important and universal instruments such as music, continues to support the WOMAD organisation in our country, and just as has been in past África Vive editions, this year it will also sponsor the participation of African artists in the programme of this very important festival, a symbol of music from throughout the world.
The groups that will participate in the 2011 WOMAD sponsored by Casa África are:
Dobet Gnahoré, from Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast)
Takeifa, from Senegal
Africa Dub Squad, from Cape Verde This group was one of the winners of the past Cape Verde Vis a Vis edition, an event organised by Casa África with the aim of introducing African musicians to Spanish producers so as to allow their musical promotion in our country.
Baloji with the Katuba Orchestra, from the Republic of the Congo
Orchestre National de Barbès, with members from France and Algeria
The concerts will take place at the Plaza Mayor and the film season will be hosted at the Filmoteca de Extremadura, and on Sunday, May 15th, attendees of the passacaglias can enjoy the giant puppets of the 'Les grandes personnes' company from Burkina Faso.
