9ª edición del Festival de Cine Africano (FCAT). Córdoba 2012
The 9th African Film Festival of Córdoba-FCAT 2012 will be held in the city of Córdoba from 13th to 21st October. During nine days, more than 120 films will be presented, accompanied by activities for professionals, exhibitions and acts for citizen participation, with special emphasis on young audiences, university students and the elderly.
This festival is organised by Al Tarab, which has a film fund of more than 600 African films that are subtitled into Spanish. Throughout the year it organises exhibitions in Africa and America and carries out together with Casa África about 70 African film cycles in Spain each year thanks to the programme Cinenómada, generating income for the holders of the film rights.
Casa África sponsors Cinenómada because it has the same objective as Al-Tarab of making African cinema visible to as many Spanish audiences as possible and of brining Africa closer to Spain.
Cinenómada makes available to various entities a large selection of films from past editions of the FCAT, subtitled in Spanish, which is to date the only offering of this dimension and genre that exists in Spain and that guarantees African producers an income, which although modest, is often the only one they receive.
It targets associations, municipalities, regional governments, universities, cultural centers, film libraries, museums and any type of organization or institution that is interested in promoting African cinema. Cinenómada distributes films throughout the year that would otherwise remain only in specialized festivals.
The film programming will have three Official Competition Sections and four sections out of the competition, as well as retrospectives and monographs. This competitive nature independent film Festival, keeps open its invitation to receive films to be judged until the 15th May 2012. Those interested in taking part can consult the Competition rules here.
