La Universidad de Pretoria es una institución pública sin ánimo de lucro que está situada en la ciudad de Pretoria, Gauteng. Reconocida por el Departamento de Educación Superior y Entrenamiento de Sudáfrica, la Universidad al tener nueve facultades, tiene la posibilidad de  ofrecer cursos y programas en distintas áreas de estudio, como la Facultad de Veterinaria, que es la única que existe en Sudáfrica, o la Facultad de Derecho y Empresariales, que es conocida por ser una de las mejores facultades de Sudáfrica.

La Universidad de Pretoria se ha convertido en una de las Universidades con más prestigio de todo el continente, por eso tiene una política de admisión muy selectiva que depende de las notas académicas de los estudiantes y de las notas de los exámenes que tienen que realizar para poder ser admitidos. 

Su objetivo es que sus graduados al finalizar sus estudios se conviertan en pensadores críticos y creativos que son capaces de trabajar sin ningún tipo de problema en cualquier ambiente de trabajo, a la vez que mantienen el compromiso de contribuir a Sudáfrica.
