En 1974,hace casi más de diez años de la indepen independencia de Senegal,  juristas preocupadas por la situación que sufre la población senegalesa y, en particular, por la de las mujeres y los niños, sintieron la necesidad y el deber de crear un marco de reflexión e intercambio sobre la cuestión. Así nació la Asociación de Juristas Senegaleses (AJS) en julio de 1974. Entre sus miembros se encuentran mujeres profesoras de derecho, magistradas, abogadas, alguaciles, notarias, inspectoras de trabajo, asesoras jurídicas, doctoras en derecho, etc. La agrupación de mujeres abogadas les ha permitido contribuir eficazmente al desarrollo del derecho en general y al adelanto de las mujeres y los niños en particular.

Combatir todas las formas de discriminación y trabajar para el establecimiento de relaciones de género equitativas ;
Sensibilizar a las autoridades públicas y a las instituciones internacionales para que trabajen en pro del adelanto y la potenciación de la mujer;
Promover y mantener un espíritu de asistencia mutua y de asociación con toda organización nacional, regional e internacional que persiga el mismo objetivo en los planos nacional, regional e internacional;
Establecer relaciones e intercambios entre mujeres de todos los países que estén o hayan estado en la carrera jurídica, que tengan un título de abogado o equivalente en el país en cuestión;
Reunir y difundir ampliamente información sobre las condiciones jurídicas, económicas y sociales de la mujer en todo el mundo; su condición y su vida profesional.
